SADAKO SASAKI´S HISTORY

Hello children! "Peace Day" is coming on Thursday 28th January, and our week´s homework is about it. You must read the text about Sadako Sasaki`s history and translate it in your notebook.

On 6th November 1945, the atomic bomb exploded in Hiroshima (Japan) and a girl called Sadako Sasaki, who was 2 years old, didn´t die because she lived 2 kilometres far away from his town.
When she was 11 years old she was diagnosed with leukemia and the doctors calculated she would die in a year.
When she was at the hospital she saw a present formed by a thousand paper cranes and Sadako asked what was it. They told her it was a Japanese legend that say you can get a wish if you fold a thousand paper cranes.
She decided to fold a thousand paper cranes with his hands and ask a wish: not die of leukemia.
She started folding paper cranes. She worked and worked day and night, but when she got 644 she died. Then, her school friends published her history and the day she was buried, 100000 paper cranes decorated her grave and there is a statue of her playing with a paper crane.
In Japan, it is said that Sadako changed her wish before die and she asked instead peace for the world. And so, in our school, children want to contribute to get Sadako Sasaki`s peace wish.
